Grieve’s sensational 2008 Sauvignon Blanc Lovall offers abundant aromas of honeyed melon, gunflint, and citrus blossoms in an exuberant, medium-bodied, dry, fresh, well-delineated style. Enjoy this terrific Sauvignon over the next 2-3 years. 90pts.

Wine Spectator: 12 Refreshing California Whites

Many of these juicy Golden State Sauvignon Blancs are priced at just $20 or less
MaryAnn Worobiec, Wine Spectator

January 25, 2010

California Sauvignon Blanc has a lot going for it. In the Golden State, it makes for a refreshing and aromatic varietal in a wide range of styles, it’s value-priced, it succeeds in many different regions, and it has benefited from a recent string of good vintages.

Among the dozen California Sauvignon Blancs featured here are two newcomers. One of the new faces to us is Grieve Family Winery, whose 2008 Sauvignon Blanc hails from a vineyard in the little-known Lovall Valley in southwest Napa. Winemaker Michael Terrien (most recently of Hanzell Vineyards) blends 12 lots from this single site, from two different pickings, a month apart. The result is intense, tropical and extremely mouthwatering.

West Coast Wine Industry Growth
Is the industry saturated? Not according to these hopeful entries

San Rafael, Calif. — Many would-be winemakers see room for their new ventures in emerging, sometimes untried regions across the continent, as we reported here yesterday. But the West Coast, where most of North America’s wine comes from, has thousands of established producers. With some growers suffering surplus supplies of premium grapes this year, it might appear to be overbuilt. The Sorting Table: Grieve Family Winery

The plan - make the best sauvignon blanc in America!

Even for a local, finding the Lovall Valley isn’t easy. Nestled in the hills between the towns of Sonoma and Napa and just a knoll north of the Carneros district is the tiny little valley of Lovall, truly the coolest of cool. The cool air of the Carneros is trapped by the hillsides of Lovall to create the coolest region in the Napa Valley. Lovall Valley is rated a Region 1, the coolest on the average temperature scale for vineyard land.

David Grieve found himself moving from San Francisco to Lovall Valley for its beauty, tranquillity and proximity to a community airstrip, in this case the Napa airport. With a career in commercial real estate that has him flying all over the country, Lovall Valley seemed the ideal location to reside and the town of Sonoma provided a pleasant spot for his business office. When David purchased his 10 acre hill top home in 2002 part of the view from his backyard was a 60 acre plot that included some sauvignon blanc on the Lovall valley floor...

What's In Your Bag and Bottle?

GOLF&Lifestyle Magazine
August 2009

David Grieve, President of A&C Ventures, Inc., when not working with one of their many clients such as Rite Aid, Office Depot or Pier 1 Imports, will most likely be found either on a golf course or at the Grieve Family Vineyard. With an index that hovers around 3.0 and memberships in the Sonoma Golf Club, Olympic Club, Santa Rosa's Mayacama Golf Club and the Pronghorn Club in Bend, OR, suffice it to say that golf is one of his passions. In fact he emphatically stated “Golf is one of the reasons I work!” Although David plays in numerous Pro Ams including the Bob Hope, AT&T, Callaway and the Dunhill, his favorite event is the Champions Tour Charles Schwab Cup which is held at the Sonoma Golf Club. As a firm believer in community involvement, he works as the Tournament General Chair with Leon Gilmore, the events Executive Director, to help ensure both substantial donations to local charities as well as a well run and memorable tournament...
